This adaptation of a terrace house into a safe and comfortable HMO for young Care Leavers (aged 18-25), who have experienced the criminal justice system, delves into the government requirements and restrictions within the building industry and the affect design has on people.

Within the guidelines of the client, Own Merit (est. 2021), the concept aims to provide "a safe, supportive, and aspirational environment" within the scope of the site. A stepping stone for their future, the Guildhall accommodation will be a welcoming and modern home focussing on support, responsibility, and economical sustainability.

In order to best achieve these goals, the concept brings together both rigid building standards and a strong sense of emotional response based design. This is especially important given that it is designed to house vulnerable young men who require encouragement and positivity.
