This conversion of a 20th-century community building explores the possibilities of re-purposing to sustainably provide a home for youth activities and support. Incorporating indoor activities with sports, advice, support, and sensory spaces promotes a positive sense of emotional wellbeing.
The design for a youth centre in Leicester accounts for major reductions in youth services with aims to reduce negative behaviour and violence and support young people in a time of financial hardship for many.
Home to social spaces, activities, and support, THREAD operates throughout the day to various young people from the site previously home to the Attenborough Arts Centre - a smaller, more manageable site suitable for sustainable re-purposing and adapting.
Throughout the design, colour psychology has been used to reinforce positive emotional responses with focus on intended users. Selected colours are within the material board.
