Delapré Abbey, Northampton
Jan - May 2025
This conversion of a 19th-century stable block explores the possibilities of re-purposing the existing buildings to incorporate educational spaces, promote outdoor activities, and have exhibition rooms that serve to showcase the local heritage.
Within the guidelines of the client, Delapré Abbey Preservation Trust (est. 2006), the concept aims to fulfil their vision for the site. Conserving and restoring the complex for the future, it will be a high quality, mixed-use, sustainable heritage attraction.
In order to best achieve these goals, the concept brings together both sustainable thinking and a strong sense of community. This is especially important given that the trust is volunteer led and the more attention brought to this, the more support the trust will receive.
Interpretation. Learning. Community Engagement. Sustainability.
Making the site suitable for all, some changes will be considered whilst maintaining the historic value of the buildings. Original materials will be kept or re-used as much as possible and, where not so, will be locally sourced to protect the celebration of heritage.
